F A Q

What should I wear to my appointment?

I may ask you undress to your underwear on your initial consultation, as appropriate. An osteopath needs to observe and work with your body. I would recommend modest underwear. However, please bring with you a pair of shorts, leggings or a vest top if you would feel more comfortable.

I'm Pregnant. When would you advise I see you for treatment?

Regardless of the reason for your appointment, I treat from second trimester (13 weeks) and beyond. I don't recommend treatment during first trimester (below 12 weeks) but please contact me if you are in need of assistance during this time and I can help advise.

Can anyone call themselves an ‘osteopath’?

No. The title ‘osteopath’ is protected by law and only those osteopaths registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) may practice as osteopaths.

I am fully registered with the GOsC: Siân Steel

How long does an osteopath train for?

Osteopaths train at degree level for 4 year full time or 5 years part-time in the UK.

Osteopaths must complete at least 90 hours of continuing professional development over a three year cycle to keep their skills and knowledge up-to-date.

What should I expect after treatment?

Osteopathy is a gentle mode of therapy, however, due to its physical nature it is not unusual to feel sore post treatment for 24-48 hours after your appointment. This is completely normal. Should you have any concerns, please feel free to contact me.
