What to Expect in Your Women’s Health Appointment?

It all begins with chat

During a women’s health appointment, Siân creates a calm, none-judgmental, safe space to take a confidential and detailed case history of your symptoms and experiences. This will include how your problem is affecting you, when it started, tests and images you may have had, in-depth questions regarding your gynae, birth and/or pregnancy histories that are relevant to you. From here, Siân can ascertain whether further referral may be warranted alongside osteopathy or whether osteopathy may not be suitable for you.

Siân will discuss all treatment options available and you can decide what feels right for you.

Examination & Treatment – it’s not as scary as it sounds

Examination and treatment isn’t too dissimilar from a standard osteopathic appointment, although more specialist techniques are used to help alleviate women’s health symptoms. Your lower back, pelvis, hips and pelvic floor will be assessed if indicated. Siân will ask you to remain clothed where appropriate, so a vest top and leggings are strongly recommended.

Should examination or treatment of intimate areas be warranted, Siân will first explain what she would like to examine, why it would be beneficial to your care and treatment and what would be involved in treating what she finds. This will only be done with your consent, you always have to option to say no if you feel you don’t want it or feel uncomfortable.

Should a technique require a chaperone, Siân will always discuss this with you in advance and look to book you in at a future date to complete your treatment. You are more than welcome to bring a chaperone with you, or a member of the team can be with you in the room if you would prefer.

Following your appointment, Siân will be able to provide you with exercises, homecare advice or lifestyle modifications that are tailored specifically to you.
